An essay I wrote when I was 15 about Valentine's Day for English class! I sure had fun writing this! I hope you like it!! Enjoy Valentine's Day everyone!
It's A Boy Girl Thing
"Can you feel this magic in the air? It must've been the way you kissed me, fell in love when I saw you standing there, today was a fairytale!" The time of year when we listen to cheesy love songs and secretly pray to ourselves that some guy will finally make his move, you guessed it, it's Valentine's day. Every single store we walk into is decorated in velvet red decorations and the gift shops are packed with guys and girls of all ages trying to find the perfect gift. But of course, this is another celebration in which girls' and guys' gestures differ! Between the gifts, the planning, and finding the perfect outfit for the perfect date, gender plays its role in our lives again!
The first question that pops to our minds on Valentine's day is "What gift to buy?" Now, girls never stop at asking themselves only one question. After the basic question, there is always a long list of never-ending questions that nothing other than the female brain is able to think of. Should we go over the top? Should it be expensive or should it be something heartfelt? Should it be something he needs or something he wants but probably won't buy for himself? Will the type of gift portray what kind of relationship we have? Girls over-analyze everything. Here's how it usually goes when girls go out shopping for the so-called perfect present. They walk into around thirty stores that have absolutely nothing in common. They check out cologne, t-shirts, video games, and everything else that the guy will probably love. But no, of course, they choose the huge red teddy bear that has tacky written all over it at Thierry's Friends. Really girls? Do you honestly expect the guy to keep that on his bed so that every time his friends come over they'd have a great reason to make fun of him. Now guys, on the other hand, usually take everything lightly. They don't worry about price, thoughtfulness, or what the gift is going to mean to the girl. They care about their personal pleasure. They walk into the store with the pretty display. They choose the most baring top, present it to the girl, and ask her with most innocent puppy-dog-eyed face ever to try it on. They think that in that way, it's a win-win situation. They got to see what their masculine brain desires, and the girl got a present. (My 18 year old self doesn’t really agree with this anymore, sorry for the hate my 15 year old self had boys!:P)
Now after the gift issue has been dealt with, there's the date planning. If it's up to the girl to plan the date then it's probably going to be like a scene from her favorite romantic movie. Girls know what the atmosphere should be like, what music should be playing, and what food they should eat. Girls like it when everything feels like a fairytale. They usually go for a moonlit picnic or a romantic stroll in the park then a candlelit dinner. They prepare a mix CD of everything from Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love" to James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" and play it the background. As for the food, anything oily or drippy might ruin their outfit, the horror! They get something out of a foreign cooking site and mercilessly make the boy try it for the first time. Now if it's up to the guy to plan it, things would go slightly differently. No candlelight. Who am I kidding? If the guy is planning, we'll have the girls say good-bye to everything they've ever watched and dreamt of. The date is probably going to be the typical movies and dinner at the nearby burger joint, or a rock concert. (this explains why many girls usually carry ear plugs in their bags.) (My 18 year old self likes the rock concert idea lol!)
Finally comes choosing the outfit! Finding the perfect outfit is the ideal excuse for girls to go shopping! They spend an entire day darting from one store to another in the mall, from Bebe to Armani Exchange, from Forever 21 to Topshop, they go through the racks of them all! After going through all the clothes store, HELLO SHOES! Although they probably have enough pairs to prevent their closet from closing properly already, they cannot, over their dead-bodies, go on the date in already-worn shoes! They try on fifty different pairs of pumps, sandals, boots until they find the most beautiful heels that are 15 inches high. It's painful to be beautiful, Amen to that. Now that was concerning the shopping. Now for the getting ready part, and boy do girls take time! They do their hair which takes about an hour, then the make-up, and heaven forbid that the shade of pink blush isn't the baby pink she wanted or all hell will definitely break loose! Then after having spent three hours getting ready, not to mention having the guy wait two of the hours downstairs with her father glaring at him and asking him all sorts of creepy questions, the girl finally struts down the stairs, and it turns out to be worth the wait. While guys on the other hand, skip shopping and just find something in that huge pile of clean clothes stuffed on a chair in their room, it's usually only 2 feet from the pile of laundry so, well I'll just leave the rest to your imagination. They shower, shave, and brush their hair for the first time in a year. The entire process usually just takes about twenty minutes including the time where he spaces out from the fact that he has to get ready and ends up watching the awesome goal from last night’s game.
Roses are red, violets are blue, this is what really happens on Valentine's day, didn't see that coming, did you?
